- The starling box is placed at least 2 meters up north/northwest - north/northeast. Preferably several starling boxes next to each other. As the starling is a very social bird and prefers to live in colonies, as do several sparrow species. The starling cleans its nest box itself, if there is still old nesting material in the nest box, it is cleaned so that it is ready for spring.
- The nesting boxes can also be used as winter roosts for birds that stay in the garden over the winter.
