American mint is a prairie plant - it loves sun. It has an incredibly long flowering period and is great in a rose bed. The flowering begins when the lavender begins to fade. It is a stable perennial, but it does not like it if it is too damp in the bed in winter - it has this in common with lavender. A good trick is to make the bed just a little higher than the lawn.
