Yakushimanum hybrids are all sun-loving. They originate from the Japanese island 'Yakushima' where it grows on open windswept slopes. They are dense all the way down to the ground and they generally become wider than tall. They become 80-130 cm tall in 10 years - depending on the variety. All new shoots and leaves are covered with a brownish "fluff" that protects against drying out. The colors vary from white, pale yellow, rose, pink, red and violet pink. They all need to be planted in sphagnum and fertilized with Rhododendron fertilizer, to thrive and keep the beautiful leaf color.
