Clematis has large, colorful flowers. The plant climbs by wrapping its leaf stalk around whatever it encounters.
Horizontal strings or wires are easier for a Clematis to hang onto than vertical ones.
Clematis is originally a forest plant, so it likes to have "cold feet" - a bit like a forest floor is always cool in the summer. Therefore, it is a good idea to cover the ground around your Clematis with a shade-giving perennial, such as hosta or Geranium Rozeanne. The ground can also be covered with bark, which insulates.
Never place stones or broken pieces around your Clematis, as you risk the plant's roots getting too hot in the summer. The result is that the plant suddenly wilts in the middle of summer. More often it comes back, but it will have damaged roots.
We have many different Clematis in the nursery.
