Bean seeds should not be sown too early in the vegetable garden, otherwise they will not germinate well. The soil should be warm and the potatoes should be well established before the beans are sown. Bean seeds should be soaked in lukewarm water for a couple of hours before sowing - then they will germinate almost immediately. You can easily sow beans several times during the summer, so that you always have fresh beans. Note that there are beans that are low and do not need support. Broad beans and pole beans must have at least 1.5 m high sticks from which they can grow. Field beans or horse beans produce 80-100 cm high plants, which usually do not fall over. No beans can be eaten raw, they must always be blanched.
